I know everyone keeps saying it, but really, can you believe the weather we had?! What an amazing long weekend! We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did. We went to dance to the musical superpowers of The Paint Movement at the Horseshoe Tavern. Man, they are SO GOOD! Okay, yeah, so this doesn’t have a whole lot to do with holistic eating, but having a fun, revitalizing night out has everything to do with holistic living!
Anyway! We Feel Good Foodies don’t booze it up very often, but when we do, we like to make it awesome. It’s the Feel Good Foodie way! Here’s how the long weekend let’s-celebrate-this-sunshine-drinks went down:
One whole, organic grapefruit, with a handful of fresh mint leaves, pure gogi juice (super-duper dose of antioxidants!), a shot of gin (I like Bombay Sapphire because it has lots of useful herbs in it – but understand that this DOES NOT make it health food – I know, you were hopeful) and ice. The result of mixing….?
DELICIOUSNESS! What a cool flavour combo. The colour is a bit dark because of the gogi berry juice. Using something like pomegranate or cranberry juice would help to keep the colour light and pink.
So why add these juices? Besides being delicious, they are high in antioxidants, which are very useful in helping to repair some of the bodily damage caused by the alcohol. That’s not to say that pouring a splash of juice in your booze negates any harmful effects – the stuff still ain’t good for your liver. But most people are going to drink now and then, so consider adding some real, pure fruit juices to your mixed drinks.
