It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and it’s good timing too: what with this long, cold winter, it’s good to have an extra excuse to snuggle up with someone you fancy.
So what’s the ticket to a vivacious, smokin’, healthy sex life, you ask?
Well, first and foremost, overall health. It’s hard to feel sexy if you just don’t feel good in general. Solid nutrition is important to stay healthy and energized, to keep your hormones balanced, to stay relaxed and cope well with stress, and to feed your brain. Your brain, after all, is your biggest erogenous zone – if things are too busy up in your head, they ain’t gonna be busy down in your pants. Feed both your body and your mind well: nurture yourself with good food, good thoughts, and stay present.
Food-wise, it’s best to eat a whole-food based diet, rich in fresh leafy greens, always whole grains over refined grains, healthy fats (think avocados, raw nuts and seeds, fish, flax oil, and hemp seed oil), and a good 2 litres of water per day. Avoid too many animal fats, sugar, alcohol, trans fats (anything deep fried, for example), caffeine, white flour-based products, and general junk food.
Brain-wise, if your problem is staying present when things start heating up, essential oils can be an excellent, sensual tool to help you get “in the mood”. Our sense of smell has a powerful emotional connection, and is vital to our awareness. There are many essential oils that excite the senses and register in the brain as a “turn on”, such as jasmine and sandalwood. These can be sprinkled around a room, added to bath water, worn as perfume, or used to make massage oil.
Herbal remedies offer many other options to increase sexual vitality. In Ayurveda, India’s ancient, traditional system of medicine, Ashwagandha is revered as the best herb for rejuvenation, and is said to give one “the vitality and sexual energy of a horse”. Dried ashwagandha root can be made into a tea. The herb can also be purchased in capsule or tincture (liquid) form.
For more tips, recipes, samples, and sensual take-home gifts, come to the pre-Valentine’s Day Workshop for Lovers. You and your honey can learn together, or you can learn independently, and then dazzle your partner with your new wisdom and zeal. If you’re currently flying solo, these tips and goodies can be a great way to love and treat yourself lavishly. All are encouraged to attend. Participants will leave smelling good and feeling fine, with goodies in their pockets and exciting ideas in their heads.
Hope to see you at the workshop, on Thursday, February 13 at 7:30 in Bloor West Village. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org
Happy Valentine’s Day!
