It’s Fall?! Raw Apple Pie!

HELLO FALL!! (and Foodie Friends!!)

It’s definitely that time of year again – I’m sure we’ve all felt the chill in the air! And as much as it sucks to think that winter is coming and we won’t be able to keep buying fresh, local produce, the fall season brings us an abundance of other delicious fruits and vegetables like squash, and pears, and pumpkins, and APPLES!

And so, in the excitement of finding the first batch of local Sault Ste Marie organic apples (apples are on the dirty dozen, remember) I put together this quick and delicious raw pie.

Raw Apple Pie

Filling:
5-6 small organic local apples
2 Tbsp maple syrup
1 Tbsp cinnamon

Crust:
2/3 cup chia seeds
5 dates
¼ cup water
2 tbsp maple syrup
½ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp groung nutmeg

  • In a food processor, mix together the chia seeds , dates, water, maple syrup, and spices. Grind until the dates start to hold the chia together. Place this is a pie dish and use your hands to form the shape of a crust.
  • Core and thinly slice the apples. Toss them together in a bowl with the maple syrup and the cinnamon. Put them in the crust either all pretty and neat like I did, or just throw ‘em in! There will also be a delicious juice left in the bottom of the apple bowl, to which I either advice you to drink, or pour over the top of your pie ☺.

And voila! Simple, healthy, delicious, and perfect for any fall harvest party (or, you know, for yourself).

Stay local, friends!
